The scholarship program “There is Chemistry Between Us!” was launched in 2023 as an initiative by JSC Olpha to encourage young chemistry teachers to enter and remain in Latvia’s school system. Its aim is to motivate new professionals to pursue and continue careers in science education, thereby strengthening education quality and fostering the development of future specialists.
In 2024, LLC Centrālā laboratorija joined the program to support young biology teachers with scholarships, and in 2025, JSC Veselības centru apvienība became a partner, providing scholarships for new mathematics teachers. The total scholarship fund reached €180,000 in 2025.
Scholarships are awarded twice a year—in spring and autumn. In spring, nine scholarships are granted (three each for chemistry, biology, and mathematics teachers), and in the autumn, six scholarships are awarded.
Eligible applicants include students who are studying to become teachers in chemistry, biology, or mathematics—or are pursuing degrees in natural sciences while already teaching the respective subjects at a school. Selection criteria include academic performance and motivation letters.
