Mēness aptieka is the first pharmacy in Latvia to introduce electronic shelf labels, promoting efficiency and sustainability

Electronic shelf labels have already been introduced in five Mēness aptieka pharmacies with a high customer flow in Riga and Jelgava. This modern and convenient solution significantly reduces the workload of pharmacy professionals, allowing them to devote more time to pharmaceutical care and customer consultations, while also optimizing resource use and supporting sustainable development.

By continuously modernising its services and implementing new solutions for the convenience of both customers and employees, Mēness aptieka is the first in Latvia to roll out electronic shelf labels in pharmacies across the country.

“The primary role of pharmacies is to ensure that customers have access to the medicines they need and to provide professional pharmaceutical consultations. In the fast-paced daily operations of pharmacies, electronic shelf labels represent a valuable support for pharmacists’ day-to-day work and work organisation. As manual price label replacement is time-consuming, we are pleased to introduce electronic shelf labels in several pharmacies, giving our pharmacists more time for customer consultations and healthcare support. In addition, this technological solution significantly optimises resource use and reduces waste. We are therefore pleased to take another step towards a more modern, sustainable pharmacy environment that is more convenient for both customers and pharmacy professionals,” says pharmacist and board member of Mēness aptieka, Jeļena Petrišina.

Unlike paper shelf lables, electronic shelf labels allow prices to be updated digitally, ensuring accurate, fast, and efficient price management. At the same time, this solution represents an important step in the company’s sustainability strategy by reducing the use of paper and printing resources, as well as minimising the amount of related waste.

The need for regular price label updates in pharmacies is driven by several factors, including customer needs and seasonal demand, as well as the introduction of new products and special monthly offers. For example, during the winter period, products that support immunity and help relieve cold symptoms are placed more prominently for customer convenience, while in summer there is higher demand for various products that protect against sunburn. Electronic shelf labels significantly ease daily operations by enabling continuous, fast, and accurate price adjustments in line with current customer needs.
