As the demand for outpatient healthcare services continues to grow, “Veselības centru apvienība” (VCA) provided more than 1.5 million visits to 375,000 unique patients in 2024 – an increase of 1.5% compared to 2023. In response to these growing needs, VCA continued to broaden its range of outpatient services and regional accessibility last year.
“As we deliver a broad range of state-funded services to people throughout Latvia every day, we can confidently say that we are the country’s most accessible healthcare provider — ensuring a full spectrum of healthcare services, from diagnostics to advanced surgical care. We also provide a convenient appointment platform, e-poliklinika.lv, which significantly enhances the patient’s experience. At the same time, we continue to develop our services by investing in new equipment, facility improvements, and ongoing staff training, ensuring that that patients receive full-cycle, high-quality medical care,” says Iveta Lāce, chairwoman of the VCA board.
In 2024, VCA invested more than €3.5 million in advanced diagnostic technologies and equipment, infrastructure improvements, and staff competency development. Advancing its digitalisation efforts, VCA enhanced the electronic appointment platform, introduced an automated visit reminder system, and implemented self-service kiosks in four of its largest clinics. These solutions make it easier for patients to register for and pay for appointments, while also reducing the number of missed visits and improving service quality. To ensure timely access to information and reduce the circulation of paper documents, a transition to digital referrals and medical records has been initiated, and patient experience is continuously monitored.
VCA is one of the largest employers in the healthcare sector, and in 2024 it employed more than two thousand staff members, including nearly 1,000 physicians and 800 other healthcare professionals. In 2024, VCA continued to invest in the training of new doctors within the residency programme and served as a training base for students and residents of the Rīga Stradiņš University and the University of Latvia’s Faculty of Medicine.
In 2024, compared to 2023, VCA’s turnover increased by 8.8%, reaching €64.78 million. Last year, VCA paid more than €17 million in taxes to the Latvian state budget.
In 2025, VCA continues to expand its range and accessibility of services, with particular focus on regional development, the enhancement of new technological solutions, and improvements to the patient experience. The Rehabilitation Department of the VCA Health Clinic “Elite” has been renovated, and diagnostic equipment across clinics has been modernised. As part of an important change management initiative, strategic development plans for VCA’s medical specialities are being defined. To promote continuous medical education, VCA this year organised the interdisciplinary conference “Mission: Heart,” bringing together more than 600 professionals from across Latvia.
