“Practically healthy” - a new programme on health and medicine launched

At the end of November, Centrālā laboratorija, Veselības centru apvienība, and Mēness aptieka, in collaboration with Delfi TV, are launching a new programme dedicated to health and medicine - “Practically healthy” (Praktiski vesels).

In this new conversation series, health ambassador Arta Lāce and gynaecologist and obstetrician Karlīna Elksne will meet with medical professionals, field experts, healthy lifestyle enthusiasts and other knowledgeable, inspiring personalities to discuss a wide range of health and medical topics. The goal is to share practical, useful advice for improving quality of life and to provide clear, professional answers to the essential health questions everyone should understand.

“Although ‘health’ is a noun by definition, in practice it behaves like a verb - it requires conscious action, knowledge, and everyday choices. Unfortunately, health literacy in Latvia remains low: only 21% of the population can fully understand and apply health information. This means that many people do not always know what medicines they are taking or fail to visit doctors and undergo examinations in due time,” notes Karlīna Elksne, one of the show’s hosts.

“Many of us feel a bit overwhelmed when thinking about our health - unsure about our latest test results, worried about being judged, or simply unable to remember the last time we visited our family doctor for an annual check-up. Based on my own experience as an oncology patient, I know how important it is to feel safe, understand information, and receive clear, practical guidance,” says health ambassador Arta Lāce.
