The artwork with the historically symbolic title for Latvia – “Song” – was awarded 2nd place in the “Restoration” category at the 2024 Latvian Construction of the Year Awards, which took place in March 2025.
The stained glass was renovated as part of the major reconstruction of Mēness aptieka “Kamēlija” in 2024. The artwork was originally created by celebrated Latvian artist Tenis Grasis 40 years ago in honour of the legendary 24-hour pharmacy’s reconstruction.
In 2024, the delicate restoration of the stained glass was carried out by restorer Agris Butelis, who received a Lifetime achievement award at the Latvian Construction of the Year Awards. He emphasized the important role of “Mēness aptieka” in restoring the values of historical heritage and expressed hope that the restoration of the “Song” stained glass would serve as an encouragement for other entrepreneurs to value and preserve Latvia’s cultural heritage.
The Latvian Construction Award of the Year competition is facilitated by Building Design and Construction council and has been held nationwide for 11 years. Its mission is to promote safe, innovative, high-quality and aesthetic buildings and constructions. This year 155 buildings and renovation projects were submitted for the competition.
