The new centre will enable more efficient day-to-day pharmaceutical deliveries, strengthen the availability of medicines across Latvia and enhance supply security during crises and emergencies.**\n\nThe new logistics centre, which has just celebrated its topping-out ceremony, represents one of the largest private investments in critical pharmaceutical supply infrastructure in Latvia’s history. Once completed, which is planned for spring 2027, the centre will significantly strengthen the security of pharmaceutical supplies, the resilience of the system and the uninterrupted availability of medicines to people across Latvia.\n\n> “A country cannot be resilient and prosperous without strong companies that invest in development and growth. Latvia’s security is determined not only by our defence capabilities, but also by the resilience of critical infrastructure and the readiness of businesses to ensure the provision of vital services to society under any circumstances. The availability of medicines and medical supplies is one such priority. That is why investments of this scale in modern pharmaceutical supply infrastructure are especially important, particularly when they are made by Latvian companies using private capital. This once again demonstrates that Latvian companies are ready to take responsibility not only for their own growth, but also for the country, making long-term investments in its security and competitiveness,” **Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs emphasised** at the topping-out ceremony of the logistics centre.\n\nOf the total €20 million investment, more than €6 million will be allocated to advanced automation and robotics technologies that will equip the 13,800-square-metre logistics centre. This will significantly increase process efficiency, ensure exceptionally high accuracy in goods picking and order fulfilment, and considerably accelerate order processing, creating the infrastructure needed for efficient and uninterrupted pharmaceutical and medical supplies distribution, including in emergency situations.\n\n> **Andris Kužnieks, Head of the European Commission Representation in Latvia, notes** that the project is aligned with the European Union’s (EU) objectives to strengthen the security of pharmaceutical supply: “The EU has set a clear objective through the Critical Medicines Act and other initiatives to strengthen Europe’s capacity to ensure the availability of critical medicines to its citizens. This means developing the production of these medicines and their active pharmaceutical ingredients in Europe, building more resilient supply chains, strengthening cooperation between Member States, including in the area of joint procurement, and reducing strategic dependencies on third countries. The security of EU supply chains, the resilience of critical infrastructure and economic security are a shared responsibility of the public and private sectors in the current geopolitical environment. It is therefore essential to further strengthen the security of pharmaceutical supplies and ensure the uninterrupted availability of medicines to patients across Latvia. The new pharmaceutical logistics centre in Riga represents a significant investment by a Latvian company in strengthening the country’s critical pharmaceutical supply infrastructure.”\n\n> “Recognising our role in Latvia’s pharmaceutical supply system and the resilience of the healthcare system, we are developing not only the Baltics’ most advanced automated pharmaceutical logistics centre, but also infrastructure that will strengthen Latvia’s long-term capacity to ensure the uninterrupted availability of medicines.\nUpon completion of the project, we will significantly expand our supply capacity and increase the efficiency, accuracy and traceability of our processes, while reducing our reliance on manual labour.
